Posted 14 July, 2020. My Fabia's key fob suddenly stopped working. No electronic lock/unlock; and (worse) the keyless ignition did not recognise the presence of the key. Luckily, I managed to have a new key fob battery fitted before a nearby garage closed for the day. At first, the fob did not work; but after about 20 minutes the fob started to Škoda Superb. I noticed that even before the 2 year mark the "premium" one with the metal bits has got a few marks on its plastic body and even more TPMS and ESP went away but not ACC and Front Assist not Available. I did a really clean job, no shorting out wires or tapping on the wrong wires. Just got power directly from the battery to run a digital amplifier which I grounded to the chassis. The input signal to the amp were taken from the rear speakers.
There's no method to start it by physically using the key. You will get plenty of notice of when the battery is starting to fail though. I've just had to replace mine, and I got warning messages on the dashboard and you'll find you'll be opening the car with the remote buttons before it stops allowing you to start the car.
